We previously demonstrated that in-vitro transcriptional activation by MarA at the zwf promoter requires interaction with the carboxy-terminal domain of the a subunit of RNA polymerase  and inferred that MarA activates the mar promoter by enhancing the binding of RNA polymerase  .
