RcsB-regulated genes can be divided into those that are RcsA dependent , such as the cps genes ( Gottesman et al. , 1985 ) ( Fig. 3 ) , and those that are RcsA independent , such as the ftsZ ( Carballes et al. , 1999 ; Costa and Anton , 2001 ) and osmC ( Davalos-Garcia et al. , 2001 ) genes .
