From the data in Fig. 3 , it is apparent that inactivation of the ChbR repressor completely prevents residual chiP induction by chitobiose in ΔchiX background in E. coli as it does in Salmonella .
Activation of chbBCA expression by ChbR is essential to relieve ChiX repression of chiP .
In the presence of chitobiose -LRB- induced -RRB- , ChbR bound to the product of the action of the ChbG enzyme , probably monoacetylated Chb6P sequesters the ChiX sRNA so relieving the translational repression of chiP .
In the presence of chitobiose -LRB- induced -RRB- , ChbR bound to its inducing signal sequesters the ChiX sRNA so relieving the translational repression of chiP .
